Connecticut Huskies vs. Maryland Terrapins

The UConn Huskies and the Maryland Terrapins face off in Brooklyn in their 2013-2014 college basketball season openers. The Huskies are -5.5 point favorites over the Terrapins with an over/under point total set at 143. The Connecticut Huskies didn’t go to the NCAA Tournament a year ago because of academic reasons but they have a team that could very well be headed there this season. UConn returns a ton of talent from last year and looks to be loaded at the guard spot. Shabazz Napier averaged 17.1 points per game with 4.4 rebounds and 2 steals and Ryan Boatright averaged 15.4 points and 4.4 assists per game. DeAndre Daniels and his 12.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per game and Omar Calhoun and his 11.1 points per game is back as well as UConn’s entire starting five is back in action. Florida International Panthers vs. Maryland Terrapins

The Florida International Golden Panthers look for rare back to back wins when they tangle with the Maryland Terrapins. The Golden Panthers upended Stephen F. Austin 58-56 on Sunday while the Terrapins defeated Mount St Mary’s 77-74.  The Terrapins are -14 point favorites over the Golden Panthers. Florida International has played their share of close games early in the year but their record says wins have been tough to come by and likely won’t be too common unless this team starts putting up some points. FIU averages less than 62 points and allows opponents to shoot just under 48% from the field which isn’t a combination conducive to winning. The Golden Panthers shot the ball well above average versus Stephen F Austin at 58.3% while allowing the Lumberjacks a mediocre 44.7% from the field with the scoreboard kept in check with the half court attacks both teams employed. Oddly, the Read More

Maryland Terrapins

Overview: In 2010 Maryland enjoyed one of their better season’s in recent memory culminated with a Bowl victory but oddly with all the success head coach Ralph Friedgen was shown the door. Enter Randy Edsall who was hired away from Connecticut after taking the Huskies from a sub division school to Big East Champions in his tenure there. Given how the Terrapins succeeded a year ago and the coaching changes that followed, it appears the school and the fans expect even more in 2011. That appears to be a tough order with a new coaching staff and systems that must be implemented. Offense: There is plenty of talent for Edsall and new offensive coordinator Gary Crowton (LSU) to work with, beginning with quarterback Danny O’Brien who was solid as a freshman with over 2,400 passing yards and 22 scores. The problem facing the air attack is O’Brien’s two favorite targets Read More

Maryland Terrapins vs. North Carolina State Wolfpack

The ACC Tournament kicks off today with the Maryland Terrapins taking the court against the North Carolina State Wolfpack.  Maryland is a 6-point favorite over NC State and the over/under is set at 146. The Maryland Terrapins are 18-13 overall and 10-15 against the spread on the year.  They were 7-9 in conference play this year and are the 7th seed in the tournament.  Maryland made the NCAA tournament the past two years but will have to win this tourney and get the automatic bid to make it three straight. Maryland is on a three-game losing streak and has lost all three against the spread. Losses at North Carolina and Miami were somewhat acceptable, but a 74-60 home loss to Virginia as 12-point favorites last Saturday was not. The 134 combined points scored against Virginia went er the 133-point total. The er is 7-1 in Marylands last eight games, surrendering Read More

Maryland Terrapins vs. North Carolina Tar Heels

The North Carolina Tar Heels are 6-point favorites at home over the Maryland Terrapins in ACC Conference action.  The over/under for the game is set at 140. ACC betting fans will love to sink their teeth into this fantastic Sunday night showdown. Many have already written off the Terrapins as having no shot of making the March Madness Tournament.  Though I admit that Maryland has a lack of quality wins, the prospects of ending the regular season on a five-game winning streak and 10 wins in the ACC makes me believe that there is at least hope to make it  into the field as an at-large team. The play of Jordan Williams is going to be of paramount importance. The big man has frustrated some of the best teams in America this year, and he is going to have to be the subject of an upset if there is one Read More

Duke Blue Devils vs. Maryland Terrapins

The Duke Blue Devils come into this ACC match-up as a 3-point road favorite against the Maryland Terrapins.  The over/under for the game is set at 148.  Duke is looking to bounce back from an embarrassing loss to St. Johns by the score of 93-78.  The loss dropped Duke down to the #5 team in the country.  Last week they were ranked #3. Duke is 19-2 on the season and 10-10 against the spread.  They are just 2-5 against the spread in their last seven after starting the season 8-5 against the spread.  Duke has not been the same team since Kyrie Irving has been out with a toe injury.  It is questionable whether or not he will return this year.  Since Irving been out the last eight games, Nolan Smith has led the team in scoring with 23.1 points per game. Duke is scoring 77.9 points per game in Read More
