Inside Predictions: Washington Huskies at the #10 Stanford Cardinal

The number 10 ranked Stanford Cardinal is set to host the Washington Huskies this Saturday, October 24 at 10:30 PM EST. Stanford Stadium in Stanford, California will provide the perfect environment for these two teams to prove themselves.

The Huskies are 3-3 this season. They overcame Sacramento State, Utah State and a great showing at USC saw them take down the Trojans as well. Washington didn’t do so well against Boise State, the California Golden Bears or Oregon, but at the halfway marker they are not looking half bad.

Washington lost last week to Oregon 20-26, but the game was a great watch. Long field goals by Cameron Van Winkle and an excellent 72 yard run by Myles Gaskin pumped the game full of the big plays college football is known for.

Stanford are perfectly poised for a run at the playoffs. Although they fell at the feet of Northwestern on the road in their season opener, the Cardinal has not lost a game since. They beat UCF, USC, Oregon state, Arizona and the mighty west coast Bruins at UCLA. It looks for all the world that Stanford will make the Pac-12 championship game. They are clearly the top dogs in their division, and even though Cal might pose a threat, the Card should be strong enough to make it through the championship.

Last week the Cardinal invited the Bruins over for a bit of fun. The Cardinal put on display two of the most stellar running backs to ever play the game. New York Jets wide receiver Chris Owusu’s little brother Francis, had an incredible catch, he was targeted and used the back of his defender to pin the ball and make the catch. It was an epic play to be remembered. Being asleep when his younger brother made arguably the catch of the year, Owusu said, “I had to check it for myself. [after watching the video he continues] It’s as unbelievable as everyone said it was. I watched it several times, and it got better and better each time I watched it on the phone. I wanted to give him some love early in the morning and let him know how proud I am of him. Just how amazing the catch was.

Christian McCaffrey broke a Cardinal record rushing for an unbelievable 243 yards and scoring four touchdowns against the Bruins. Coach David Shaw was asked about McCaffrey after the game, he commented, “We’ve got a big back in a little body. He’s a heck of a football player, not just a great runner.”

My Prediction: The Cardinal hit the Huskies hard in the opening quarter, the game remains even throughout the first half but by the end of the third half Stanford is emerging as the more resilient team. The Card wins by two touchdowns or more. They are the tougher and more experienced team in this match-up. The Huskies will make Stanford work for every yard though. It won’t be easy, but Stanford wins.
