Georgetown Hoyas vs. Texas Longhorns

The Georgetown Hoyas and the Texas Longhorns meet on the hardwood on Tuesday in Madison Square Garden in the Jimmy V. Classic. The Hoyas are -4.5 point favorites over the Longhorns with an over/under point total set at 117.
The Georgetown Hoyas are off to a 5-1 start to the season and John Thompson III’s team is nationally ranked. Georgetown has played solid basketball thus far with their one loss coming to number one ranked Indiana by 10. As a team Georgetown is averaging 64.7 points, 13.8 assists, and they are shooting 48.4 percent while defensively they are allowing 58.7 points, 11.3 assists, and their opponents are shooting 38.7 percent. Greg Whittington is averaging 12.7 points and 8.7 rebounds, Markel Starks is averaging 12.3 points, Otto Porter is averaging 11.6 points and 7.4 rebounds, and Mikael Hopkins is averaging 10.7 points. Georgetown doesn’t look to face too many stiff tests before their Big East schedule begins in January.
The Texas Longhorns are off to a 5-2 start but Rich Barnes’ team is still looking to bounce back from their rough trip to Hawaii a few weeks ago. If there is such a thing as a bad trip to Hawaii Texas had it as they lost to D-II Chaminade and then to USC. As a team Texas is averaging 64.9 points, 12.1 assists, and they are shooting 43.2 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 55.7 points, 9.4 assists, and their opponents are shooting 30.7 percent. Sheldon McClellan is averaging 17 points, Julien Lewis is averaging 12 points, and Ioannis Papapetrou is averaging 8. 7 points and 4.9 rebounds. Texas will need some players to step up as while they have won their last three they have been against soft competition.
Georgetown is 16-6 against the spread in neutral site games, 1-4 against the spread in their last five games overall, and 1-5 against the spread following a win. Texas is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games, 3-9 against the spread against the Big East, and 2-8 against the spread in their last 10 neutral site games.
The total in this one looks to low side but I still have it staying under.

Under 117
