Baltimore Ravens vs. New York Giants

The Baltimore Ravens and the New York Giants meet on Sunday in Baltimore in NFL Football action.  The Giants are -1 point favorites over the Ravens with an over/under point total set at 47.

The Baltimore Ravens have clinched a playoff spot but where they fit in the big picture has been far from decided. The Ravens have dropped their last two games and their lead in the AFC has dwindled with them. Joe Flacco has completed 59.1 percent of his passes with 20 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while being sacked 34 times. Ray Rice is averaging 4.5 yards per carry with nine touchdowns and he has 55 catches out of the backfield. Anquan Boldin has 58 catches and four touchdowns, Dennis Pitta has 57 catches, and Torrey Smith has 44 catches. The Ravens allow 21.9 points per game, 132.2 rushing yards, and 242.1 passing yards with 13 interceptions and 32 sacks. Bernard Pollard has 98 tackles, Dannell Ellerbee has 81 tackles, and Jameel McClain has 79 tackles and team leader Ray Lewis will be back this week. The Ravens need to regain their fire as it could be a quick trip to the post season if they don’t.

The New York Giants will be hard pressed to repeat as Super Bowl Champions this season as they had plenty of chances to make a stand and have been unable to make it when it counted. The Giants need a lot of help from the teams in front of them as they are currently ninth in the NFC and need to find their way to at least the sixth spot while they don’t own tiebreakers against anyone ahead of them. Eli Manning has completed 60.4 percent of his passes with 20 touchdowns and 15 interceptions while being sacked 15 times. David Wilson is averaging five yards per carry with three touchdowns as the Giants continue to shift around ball carriers. Victor Cruz has 79 catches, Hakeem Nicks has 53 catches, and Martellus Bennett has 50 catches. Defensively the Giants have allowed 21.7 points per game, 123.7 rushing yards, and 253.7 passing yards with 20 interceptions and 32 sacks. Michael Boley has 87 tackles, Antrel Rolle has 80 tackles, and Chase Blackburn has 84 tackles. The Giants just haven’t been able to make that late season run we saw last year despite owing wins over the Packers and the 49ers.

Baltimore is 2-5-1 against the spread following a loss, 1-5 against the spread in their last six home games, and 0-4 against the spread following a double digit home loss. New York is 10-3-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 6-2 against the spread following a loss, and 38-18-1 against the spread in their last 57 road games.

Both of these teams look like a mess right now but the Ravens should get a boost with the return of Lewis and while I believe the Giants usually rise to the occasion they haven’t been able to do so in recent weeks and I don’t see it happening here.
