Detroit Lions vs. Indianapolis Colts

The Detroit Lions and the Indianapolis Colts face off on Sunday in Detroit in a NFC versus AFC battle. The Lions are -3.5 point favorites over the Colts with an over/under point total set at 51.
The Detroit Lions were a playoff team a season ago but it doesn’t look like they will make it two years in a row. The Lions have had some tough losses this year but they all count the same in the standings and in a competitive NFC North they are up against it. Matthew Stafford has completed 60.7 percent of his passes with 14 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while being sacked 25 times. Mikel Leshoure is averaging 3.9 yards per carry with six touchdowns and Joique is averaging 4.9 yards per carry and he has 31 catches out of the backfield. Calvin Johnson has 73 catches and four touchdowns, Brandon Pettigrew has 54 catches and two touchdowns, and Titus Young has 33 catches and four touchdowns. Defensively the Lions are allowing 25.5 points, 122.4 rushing yards, and 221.5 passing yards with seven interceptions and 25 sacks. Justin Durant has 80 tackles, Stephen Tulloch has 77 tackles, and Cliff Avril has 7.5 sacks. It hasn’t been any one thing that has been the Lions’ downfall this season but small pieces of several areas.
The Indianapolis Colts are the most improved team in the NFL after drafting first a year ago they control their own destiny in the playoff race. The Colts were a perennial playoff team up until last year so a lot of it has to do with the talent that kept them on that level but also the inspired attitude of the team as they rally around their Head Coach Chuck Pagano. Andrew Luck has also been a solid contributor completing 56.8 percent of his passes with 13 touchdowns and 13 interceptions while being sacked 26 times. Vick Ballard is averaging 3.6 yards per carry and Donald Brown is averaging 4.0 yards per carry. Reggie Wayne has been outstanding with 84 catches and three touchdowns, Donnie Avery has 44 catches, Dwayne Allen has 34 catches, and T.Y. Hilton has 33 catches with five touchdowns. Defensively the Colts are allowing 24.8 points, 121.2 rushing yards, and 233.8 passing yards with five interceptions and 23 sacks. Jerrell Freeman has 101 tackles, Antoine Bethea has 72 tackles, and Kavell Conner has 45 tackles. The Colts will be tested plenty down the stretch to see if they have what it takes to be a playoff team.
Detroit is 4-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games overall, and 0-6-1 against the spread after scoring more than 30 points their previous game. Indianapolis is 4-0 against the spread against a team with a losing record, 5-1 against the spread in their last six games overall, and 3-1-1 against the spread in their last five games after allowing less than 15 points in their previous game.
While I have the Lions winning this game I have it being close and getting better than a field goal the Colts are the choice here.
