Oakland Raiders vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

The Oakland Raiders and the Jacksonville Jaguars meet on Sunday afternoon in Oakland in a battle of NFL teams desperately needing a win.  The Raiders are -5 point favorites over the Jaguars with an over/under point total set at 43.

The Oakland Raiders have played hard and have been in most of their games but all it has led to is a 1-4 record to start the season, Carson Palmer has completed 62.6 percent of his passes with six touchdowns and three interceptions while being sacked 10 times. Darren McFadden is averaging 3.2 yards per carry and he has two touchdowns and he also has 21 catches out of the backfield. Brandon Myers has 21 catches, Denarius Moore has 17 catches, while Derek Hagen and Marcel Reece have 14 catches each. Defensively the Raiders allow 29.6 points per game, 111.8 rushing yards, and 274.6 passing yards per game with three interceptions and four sacks. Phillip Wheeler has 44 tackles, Tyvon Branch has 35 tackles, and Rolando McClain has 27 tackles but the Raiders defense just hasn’t carried their end. If the Raiders can’t get to the QB it is going to be a very long season.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are improving but that doesn’t mean they are winning a lot of games as they enter this week at 1-4 overall. Blaine Gabbert has completed 54.8 percent of his passes with five touchdowns and three interceptions while being sacked 15 times. Maurice Jones-Drew is still one of the best backs in the NFL and he is averaging 4.9 yards per carry with one rushing TD and he has 12 catches and another touchdown. Marcedes Lewis has 14 catches and two touchdowns, Justin Blackmon has 13 catches, and Laurent Robinson has nine catches as the Jaguars passing game has fallen short. Defensively Jacksonville allows 27.6 points per game, 163 rushing yards, and 261 passing yards and they have three interceptions and just three sacks. Russell Allen has 47 tackles, Paul Posluszny has 43 tackles, and Dawan Landry has 32 tackles. Jacksonville has some growing to do and this year will be mostly a learning experience.

Oakland is 10-4-1 against the spread in their last 15 games following a loss, 1-4 against the spread in their last five home games against a team with a losing record, and 1-4 against the spread in their last five games against AFC teams. Jacksonville is 5-2-1 against the spread in their last eight road games, 3-7 against the spread after rushing for less than 90 yards in their previous game, and 4-1 against the spread after allowing more than 150 yards rushing in their previous game. Jacksonville has covered in the last four meetings of these two.

This looks like one of those game that comes down to a late field goal so getting more than that isn’t a bad place to be in what might be a pretty bad game for the fans.
