Missouri Tigers vs. Kentucky Wildcats

The Missouri Tigers and the Kentucky Wildcats meet on Saturday in SEC College Football action.  The Tigers are -15.5 point favorites over the Wildcats with an over/under point total set at 48.5.

It’s been a rough first year in the SEC for Head Coach Gary Pinkel and his Missouri Tigers and while better days are ahead this season has been a struggle. QB James Franklin has been injured and he is listed as out indefinitely so we can expect Corbin Berkstresser who has completed just 47.8 percent of his passes with three touchdowns and three interceptions. Kendial Lawrence is averaging 5.5 yards per carry while scoring five touchdowns and he has 12 catches out of the backfield and Marcus Murphy is averaging 5.9 yards per carry. Marcus Lucas has 32 catches with two touchdowns, T.J. Moe has 26 catches and a touchdown, and Gahn McGaffie has 18 catches. Defensively Missouri allows 25.6 points per game, 143.9 yards rushing with five interceptions and 17 sacks. Sheldon Richardson has 52 tackles and four sacks, Will Ebner has 49 tackles, and Andrew Wilson has 45 tackles. Missouri still can be a bowl team but they need to win the winnable games like this one appears to be.

The Kentucky Wildcats football team has always had an identity issue with being primarily a basketball school but even for the Cats this has been a rough year. With Maxwell Smith injured Jalen Whitlow saw the bulk of the action at QB last week and for the year he has completed 46.6 percent of his passes with one touchdown and two interceptions. In the UK backfield Raymond Sanders is averaging 5.2 yards per carry and Jonathan George is averaging 4.8 yards per carry and each have three touchdowns. LaRod King leads Kentucky receivers with 35 catches and four touchdowns, Demarco Robinson has 22 catches, and Aaron Byrd has 19 catches and two touchdowns. Defensively Kentucky is allowing 32.4 points per game, 170 yards rushing, and 256.6 yards passing with two interceptions and 18 sacks. Avery Williamson has 81 tackles, Alvin Dupree has 57 tackles and 3.5 sacks, and Miles Simpson has 47 tackles. It’s clear the Kentucky just has no answers at QB and that affects the team on both sides of the football.

Missouri is 3-8 against the spread in their last 11 games following a bye week, 8-2 against the spread following a game which they didn’t cover the spread, and 5-1 against the spread following a loss. Kentucky is 1-4 against the spread following a loss, 1-5 against the spread in their last six games overall, and 2-10 against the spread in their last 12 road games.

Missouri hasn’t gotten it done in the SEC and while Kentucky isn’t good they should be able to keep this close enough to cover what looks to be a rising number.
