Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans

The Houston Texans and the Baltimore Ravens face off of Sunday at Reliant Stadium in a battle of AFC Super Bowl hopefuls.  The Texans are -4 point favorites over the Ravens with an over/under point total set at 47.

Last week was one to forget for the Houston Texans as they first found out that Brian Cushing is gone for the season and then they were dealt their first loss of the year getting blown out at home by the Green Bay Packers. Matt Schaub has completed 63.2 percent of his passes with eight touchdowns and four interceptions. Arian Foster is leading the Texans in rushing and he’s averaging 3.8 yards per carry with seven touchdowns and Ben Tate is averaging 4.0 yards per carry with two touchdowns. Owen Daniels has 26 catches and three touchdowns, Andre Johnson has 25 catches and two touchdowns, and James Casey has 18 catches and a touchdown. The Texans allow 19.2 points per game, 87.7 rushing yards, and 213.2 passing yards with seven interceptions and 17 sacks. J.J. Watt is Houston’s leading tackler with 32 tackles and 9.5 sacks, Glover Quin has 30 tackles, and Kareem Jackson has three interceptions. The Texans have plenty of talent and expect them to be fired up to redeem themselves for their performace in their last game.

The Baltimore Ravens got some bad news this week as Ray Lewis and Lardarius Webb are both gone for the season with injuries. Joe Flacco will need to put more points on the board as he has completed 61.7 percent of his passes with eight touchdowns and four interceptions. Ray Rice is one of the best backs in the NFL averaging five yards per carry and catching 24 passes out of the backfield and Bernard Pierce has been seeing action averaging 5.3 yards per carry. Anquan Boldin is the Ravens leading receiver with 28 catches, Dennis Pita has 25 catches, and Torrey Smith has 21 catches and four touchdowns. Defensively Baltimore allows 19.7 points per game, 136.5 rushing yards, and 260.2 passing yards with seven interceptions and 10 sacks. Bernard Pollard takes over as the Ravens leading tackler with 43, Haloti Ngata has 30 tackles and three sacks. And Carey Williams has three interceptions but it is also possible that Terrell Suggs may return to action this week. The Ravens have been one of the deepest teams for year s and this season we will see exactly how deep.

Houston is 6-1-1 against the spread in their last eight games against AFC teams, 12-4-2 against the spread in their last 18 games overall, and 5-2-1 against the spread following a loss. Baltimore is 7-1-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 3-7 against the spread in their last 10 games against AFC teams, and 0-4 against the spread in their last four games overall. The road team has covered in five of the last six meetings of these two.

Sure both teams are missing key defensive players but by no means does that mean they are weak defensively and this total looks far to aggressive to the high side and I look for this game to come in under the total which is in the high 40’s.
