Tulane Green Wave vs. Mississippi Rebels

The Tulane Green Wave and the Ole Miss Rebels face off on Saturday in New Orleans in college football action.  The Rebels are -15 point favorites over the Green Wave.

The Tulance Green Wave are set to get back on the football field and attempt to regroup after a week off and after the horrific injury to Devon Walker. Tulane hasn’t had much success in their two games this season but all of that seems less important now as Walker’s health has become the focus and concern and while the team will go on, this season won’t ever be the same for them, their fans, or fans of college football. On the field QB Ryan Griffin has completed 67.2 percent of his passes with a touchdown and an interception. Rob Kelly is averaging just 2.8 yards per carry and Dante Butler is averaging an even worse 1.6. Ryan Grant has 11 catches and a touchdown for the Green Wave and Derrick Strozier has eight catches and averages just 6.5 yards per. Defensively Tulane allows 257 yards per game one ground and 222.5 in the air with just one sack and one interception. Zach Davis leads Tulane with 15 tackles while Shakiel Smith and Sam Scofield each have 12 tackles. Tulane aren’t a very good football team on the field but off the field they need to remain strong for their fallen team mate to whom of course we wish a speedy recovery as tis story just goes well beyond football to us.

The Ole Miss Rebels got off to a strong start this season looking good in their first two games but that all came to a screeching halt as they were blasted at home by Texas. Even though it was a one sided loss where the Rebels were simply outmanned, they still look to be much improved and have plenty to play for. QB Bo Wallace has completed 68.6 percent of his passes with six touchdowns and four interceptions.  Jeff Scott is averaging 10.3 yards per carry and last year’s QB Randall Mackey averages 4.3 yards per carry with a touchdown. Donte Moncrief has 18 catches and three touchdowns and Korvic Neat has 14 catches. Defensively Mississippi allows 162.3 yards rushing and 282.3 yards passing with two interceptions and nine sacks. Mike Marry leads the Rebels defense with 19 tackles and Charles Sawyer, C.J. Johnson, and Denzel Nkemdiche all have 18 tackles. Ole Miss is going to need to put the Texas game behind the as with a win here they will be half way to bowl eligibility.

Tulane is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games against the SEC, 10-24 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 0-6 against the spread in their last six home games against a team with a winning road record. Ole Miss is 13-4 against the spread in their last 17 non-conference games, 1-8 against the spread against a team with a losing record, and 2-6 against the spread in their last eight games overall.

I don’t expect Ole Miss to pile it on here but they don’t need to as this line is just way too low for the mismatch this one is. I expect the Green Wave to be inspired out of the gate but talent will win out.
