New England Patriots vs. Arizona Cardinals

The New England Patriots and the Arizona Cardinals face off on Sunday at Gillette Stadium for week two NFL action.  The Patriots are -13 point favorites over the Cardinals with an over/under point total set at 49.

The New England patriots have one goal in mind and that is winning the Super Bowl and they looked focused on that in their week one beat down of the Titans. Tom Brady completed 74.2 percent of his passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns while getting sacked just once. Stevan Ridley averaged 6.0 yards per carry rushing for 125 yards and a touchdown as the Pats offense looked dominant. Tight ends Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez each had six catches and a touchdown while Brandon Lloyd had five catches and Wes Welker gathered in three. Defense is where the Patriots need to improve most this year and they allowed just 20 rushing yards and 264 yards through the air with an interception and two sacks in a dominating performance. Jerod Mayo had 13 tackles, Devin McCourty had seven tackles, and rookies Chandler Jones and Dont’a Hightower each had five tackles as this looked to be a much improved unit. It’s too early to make a call but at this point New England looks like the team to beat in the AFC.

The Arizona Cardinals were involved in one of the more exciting games of week one and after allowing the Seahawks to have several cracks at the endzone in the final minutes the Cardinals walked away with the win. John Skelton was injured late in the game and Kevin Kolb took over at QB going six of eight on a drive that ended with the Cardinals scoring the game winning touchdown. The Arizona running game was ineffective with Ryan Williams rushing for nine yards and Beanie Wells rushing for eight. Andre Roberts had five catches and a touchdown to lead the Cardinals while Larry Fitzgerald had four catches and Early Doucet had three. The Arizona defense was rock solid as most of Seattle’s big plays were on special team and the Cardinals allowed 115 rushing yards and just 139 passing yards while recording three sacks and an interception. Daryl Washington had 10 tackles and a sack, Paris Lenon had nine tackles and two sacks, and William Gay had seven tackles. The Cardinals are one of the more underrated teams in the NFL as their offense struggles but they have one of the better defenses.

New England is 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 week two games, 4-1 against the spread after allowing more than 250 yards passing the previous week, and 1-4 against the spread after allowing less than 90 yards rushing the previous week. Arizona is 8-3 against the spread in their last 11 games overall, 6-13 against the spread in their last 19 road games, and 3-7 against the spread in their last 10 road games against a team with a winning record. The favorite has won the last four meetings of these two.

The line is big here and we are going to see a lot of big lines on the Patriots this year but this line is too big against the Cardinals defense as it should be closer to a four to six point game at most.
