St. Louis Cardinals vs. Houston Astros

The St. Louis Cardinals and the Houston Astros meet on Wednesday in St. Louis.  The Cardinals are -260 favorites over the Astros with an over/under run total set at 8.

The St. Louis Cardinals are making a push for the post season and they stated their case pounding the Astros on Tuesday. Yadier Molina and Jon Jay had three hits each and Allen Craig and David Freese had two hits as the Cardinals banged out 13 hits and scored seven runs. On the mound starting pitcher Adam Wainwright made a statement as he allowed five hits and struck out 12 in a 105 pitch complete game shutout. For Wednesday’s game St. Louis starts Kyle Lohse who has been their most cinsistent and best pitcher this year. For the season Lohse has allowed 148 hits and 47 earned runs while striking out 101 over 162 innings of work for a 2.61 ERA.

The Houston Astros have the worst record in baseball this season and they added to their loss total on Tuesday. Jose Altuve, Justin Maxwell, and Jason Castro all had hits but the Astros failed to score on their five hits.  Starting pitcher Lucas Harrell allowed eight hits and six earned runs while striking out three over five innings to fall to 10-9 on the year. For Wednesday’s game Houston starts Bud Norris who was hit by a batted ball in his last start. For the season Norris has allowed 131 hits and 73 earned runs while striking out 129 over 125.2 innings of work for a 5.23 ERA.

St. Louis is 20-7 in their last 27 home games, 2-5 in their last seven games following a win, and 5-1 in Lohse’s last six home starts. Houston is 14-38 in their last 52 games against a team with a winning record, 21-45 in their last 66 games against the NL Central, and 1-12 in Norris’ last 13 starts. Houston is 2-7 in their last nine games in St. Louis.

The odds in this one are out of hand but I still like the Cardinals to win.
