Seattle Mariners vs. Cleveland Indians

The Seattle Mariners and the Cleveland Indians meet on Tuesday for game two of their series in Seattle.  The Mariners are -210 favorites over the Indians with an over/under run total set at 6.5.

As far as last place teams go the Seattle Mariners are one of the more competitive as we saw again on Monday as the won for the sixth time in a row. Michael Saunders had three hits including two home runs, Eric Thames had two hits, and Dustin Ackley added a hit as the Mariners scored five runs on eight hits. On the mound starting pitcher Kevin Millwood allowed five hits and three earned runs over six innings to not factor in the decision as Charlie Furbush got the win to go to 5-2 on the year and Tom Wilhelmsen earned his 18th save. For Tuesday’s game Seattle starts Felix Hernandez who makes his first start since pitching a perfect game. For the season Hernandez has allowed 144 hits and 52 earned runs while striking out 174 over 180 innings for a 2.60 ERA.

The Cleveland Indians are slumping badly as they lost for the sixth time in a row on Monday. Jason Kipnis had two hits including a home run and Asdrubal Cabrera and Ezequiel Carrera each ahd two hits but it wasn’t enough as the Indians scored three runs on eight hits. On the mound Ubaldo Jimenez allowed six hits and three earned runs while striking out eight over 5.2 innings to get a no decision as Joe Smith took the loss and Tony Sipp was no relief allowing another two runs. For Tuesday’s game Cleveland starts Roberto Hernandez who sees just his second Major League action of the year. In his last outing Hernandez allowed 10 hits and eight runs over six innings in a loss to the Angels.

Seattle is 4-0 in their last four home games against a right handed starter, 16-5 in their last 21 games as a favorite, and 6-1 in Hernandez’s last seven starts. Cleveland is 15-36 in their last 51 road games, 7-20 in their last 27 road games, and 0-6 in their last six games against the AL West. Cleveland is 12-4 in their last 16 games in Seattle.

Normally we see pitchers tail off after an epic outing like King Felix had last time out but as he has shown racking up numbers on a team that doesn’t win much over the years when he doesn’t pitch he should be unfazed and get another win here.
