Chicago White Sox vs. Minnesota Twins

The Minnesota Twins and the Chicago White Sox meet on Wednesday afternoon for game three of their series at Target Field.  The White Sox are -125 favorites over the Twins with an over/under run total set at 8.5.

The Minnesota Twins have been playing well of late and while it isn’t going to be their year, they are showing signs that things are moving in the right direction. On Tuesday Denard Span had four hits and Ben Revere and Danny Valencia each had hits as the Twins scored three times on seven hits. On the mound Nick Blackburn allowed five hits and two earned runs over eight innings to not factor in the decision as Jeff Gray took his first loss of the year. For Wednesday’s game Minnesota starts Scott Diamond who looks to be their star on the mound of the future. For the season Diamond has allowed 103 hits and 32 earned runs while striking out 56 over 100 innings for a 2.88 ERA.

The Chicago White Sox extended their lead in the AL Central on Tuesday as they won and the second place Tigers lost. A.J. Pierzynski hit a two run home run in the top of the ninth inning, Alex Rios had two hits, and Adam Dunn had a hit as the White Sox scored four runs on seven hits for the night. On the mound Francisco Liriano allowed four hits and two earned runs while striking out eight over six innings for a no decision as it was Matt Thornton who got the win to raise his record to 3-6 and Addison Reed earned his 17th save. For Wednesday’s series finale Chicago starts Jake Peavy who has held his opponents to the fifth lowest batting average in the American League this year. For the season Peavy has allowed 119 hits and 49 earned runs while striking out 126 over 140 innings of work for a 3.15 ERA.

Minnesota is 4-1 in their last five games overall, 19-41 in their last 61 games as a home underdog, and 7-1 in Diamond’s last eight home starts. Chicago is 5-1 in their last six games against a team with a losing record, 3-7 in their last 10 road games, and 0-5 in Peavy’s last five road starts. Chicago is 9-3 in their last 12 games in Minnesota.

Peavy hasn’t gotten a lot of run support and these teams generally play them close but Chicago is just the better team this year and right now.
