Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Miami Marlins

The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Miami Marlins meet on Tuesday for game two of their series in Arizona.  The Diamondbacks are -185 favorites over the Marlins with an over/under run total set at 9.5.

The Arizona Diamondbacks got out to an early lead on Monday but the joy was short lived as they were clobbered by the Marlins. Jason Kubel hit a home run, Jason Upton had two hits, and Chris Young had a hit as the Diamondbacks scored three runs on nine hits. On the mound starting pitcher Joe Saunders was crushed allowing 12 hits and nine runs while lasting just 3.2 innings to fall to 6-10 on the year. For Tuesday’s game Arizona starts Trevor Cahill who has lost two of his last three decisions. For the season Cahill has allowed 141 hits and 63 earned runs while striking out 109 over 151 innings of work for a 3.75 ERA.

The Miami Marlins have had a rough year but they had plenty to cheer about on Monday in Arizona. Giancarlo Stanton hit two home runs, John Buck had four hits including a home run, and Jose Reyes had four hits as the Marlins scored 12 runs on 20 hits. On the mound starter mark Buehrle pitched well with the lead allowing six hits and two earned runs while striking out four over 7.0 innings to go to 11-11 on the year. For Tuesday’s game Miami starts Ricky Nolasco who has lost six of his last seven starts. For the year Nolasco has allowed 166 hits and 79 earned runs while striking out 94 over 144 innings of work for a 4.94 ERA.

Arizona is 4-1 in their last five games overall, 10-5 in their last 15 games as a favorite, and 5-2 in Cahill’s last seven starts as a favorite. Miami is 7-14 in their last 21 road games, 4-1 in their last five games two of a series, and 0-4 in Nolasco’s last four road starts. Miami is 5-2 in Nolasco’s last seven starts against Arizona.

While Miami had their way on Monday Arizona returns the favor here and wins easily.
