Arizona Cardinals vs. Oakland Raiders

The Arizona Cardinals and the Oakland Raiders face off on Friday for a week two of the NFL preseason battle.  The Cardinals are -3 point favorites over the Raiders with an over/under point total set at 36.5.

The Arizona Cardinals are still look for their first win of the 2012 preseason but more importantly they are looking for answers. The answers they are looking fir are at QB where Kevin Kolb has completed just 2 of 9 passes for 25 yards with a sack and an interception while John Skelton has become the front runner to start completing 7 of 12 passes with a sack and an interception. With Beanie Wells and Ryan Williams the top two running backs on the depth chart for the Cardinals neither has carried this preseason as Alfonso Smith and William Powell have as they battle for a spot on the roster. Larry Fitzgerald and Andre Roberts are listed as the starters with rookie Michael Floyd catching just two passes thus far and LeRon Byrd looking like a future star catching seven passes and leading Arizona. Defensively James Sanders and Stewart Bradley lead the Cardinals with 10 tackles each followed by Justin Bethel with eight but thus far the Cardinals have just two sacks. Overall the Arizona defense has allowed 483 yards passing and 248 yards rushing but playing the extra preseason game Arizona should have some real areas of focus this week.

The Oakland Raiders outplayed the Dallas Cowboys on paper in their opening preseason game but heading into week two the Raiders are looking for their first win and their first points. QB Carson Palmer completed 3 of six passes but threw an interception before giving way to Terrelle Pryor and Matt Leinhart whom neither have established themselves as a viable backup though Pryor did show a lot more mobility. Darren McFadden was back on the field carrying twice and catching a pass but he doesn’t look to be slowed one bit though Lonyae Miller carried the bulk of the load. Rod Streeter led all Oakland receivers with six catches, Brandon Carswell had two, and Darrius Heyward-Bey had a catch as did Juron Criner. Defensively Chad Kilgore and Travis Goethel each had four tackles while Tommy Kelly had a sack. Overall the Raiders defense allowed just 54 rushing yards and 148 yards passing for a solid effort. I expect we will see more of the starters this week and I also expect the Raiders to do whatever it takes to put at least some points on the board.

This is the third preseason game for Arizona and I see that giving them the edge here as roster battles heat up and does the QB battle against a very tough defense, I have to like the Cardinals here.
