San Diego Chargers vs. Baltimore Ravens

Two teams battle with playoff implications on the line as the San Diego Chargers host the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.  The Ravens are -1 point favorites over the Chargers with an over/under point total set at 44.

The San Diego Chargers have had a disaster of a season but they are thinking that if they can win out a trip to the playoffs could still be in the offing. The Chargers chances are slim but they do have a chance but winning is a huge part of the equation. Phillip Rivers has completed 62.9 percent of his passes with 22 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. Ryan Mathews has rushed for 5.1 yards per carry with four touchdowns and Mike Tolbert has a 3.9 yard per carry average and six touchdowns. Vincent Jackson and Antonio Gates each have 53 catches with Jackson having eight touchdowns and gets having six. Defensively San Diego has 22 sacks, 6 fumble recoveries, and 14 interceptions with a minus seven turnover ratio and they allow 330.5 yards and 23 points per game. Takeo Spikes has 91 tackles, Antwan Barnes has seven sacks, and Eric Weddle has seven interceptions. The Chargers looked the best they have all season in both of their past games and they close out the season with road games at Detroit and Oakland.

The Baltimore Ravens are tied for first place in the AFC North but with two wins over the Pittsburgh Steelers they own the tiebreaker and thus control their own destiny. The Ravens have had some stumbles on the road this year and they will need to avoid one in this spot to have hopes of a bye week. Joe Flacco is improving and he has completed 56.6 percent of his passes with 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Ray Rice is averaging 4.4 yards per carry and he has 1,029 yards and 10 touchdowns and he also has 62 catches and 10 more scores. Anquan Boldin has 55 catches, Ed Dickson has 48 catches, and Torrey Smith has 37 catches and six touchdowns. Defensively Baltimore has 45 sacks, 19 fumble recoveries, and 14 interceptions with a plus three turnover ratio and they allow 278.1 yards and 15.5 points per game. Ray Lewis and Lardarius Webb are the top tacklers on the team and both are questionable and Terrell Suggs has 13 sacks. The Ravens close out the season with Cleveland and then on the road in Cincinnati.

San Diego is 7-3 against the spread as a home underdog of up to three points, 2-5 against the spread in their last seven home games, and 2-6 against the spread in their last eight games overall. Baltimore is 4-1-1 against the spread following a game which they didn’t cover, 1-4 against the spread against a team with a losing record, and 4-0 against the spread in their last four games as a favorite of up to three points. The home team is 6-2 against the spread in the last eight meetings of these two and the favorite has covered in five of the last seven meetings.

The total in this one is set at 44 and with these defenses it should stay safely under.
