Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Jets

The Philadelphia Eagles look to play spoilers as they host the New York Jets on Sunday.  The Eagles are -2 point favorites over the Jets with an over/under point total set at 45.

The Philadelphia Eagles are easily the NFL’s most disappointing team as talk of a Dream Team have gone to a team on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoffs. A number of things could be blamed for the Eagles’ demise like injuries, lack of time to work together because of the lockout, and just bad luck but regardless this team hasn’t faced anything that the rest of league doesn’t face and they have no excuses. Michael Vick has completed 59.4 percent of his passes with 12 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while rushing for another 544 yards. LeSean McCoy has been the brightest spot for Philly as he averages 4.8 yards per carry for 1,172 yards and 14 touchdowns. Brent Celek has 49 catches and Jeremy Maclin and DeSean Jackson each have 47 catches but the receiving corps has been a mess with injuries and suspensions. Defensively the Eagles have 42 sacks, seven fumble recoveries, and 12 interceptions with a minus 12 turnover ratio and they allow 334 yards and 22.5 points per game. Jamar Chaney has 84 tackles, Kurt Coleman has 74 tackles, and Jason Babin has 15 sacks. At this point Philadelphia can just play for next year and think about what could have been.

The New York Jets are back in control of their own destiny as despite some rough spots this year they have won their last three games in a row. At this point the Jets have a one game lead over Tennessee, Cincinnati, and Oakland for the final playoff spot in the AFC. Mark Sanchez has completed 56.8 percent of his passes with 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Shonn Greene is averaging 4.2 yards per carry for 868 yards and six touchdowns. Dustin Keller has 47 catches and four touchdowns, Santonio Holmes has 43 catches and seven touchdowns, and Plaxico Burress has 37 catches and seven touchdowns. Defensively the Jets have 29 sacks, 16 fumble recoveries, and 15 interceptions with a net zero turnover ratio and they allow 310.1 yards and 20.8 points per game. Eric Smith has 78 tackles, David Harris has 73 tackles, and Darrelle Revis has four interceptions. After this one the Jets take on the Giants and then visit the Dolphins.

Philadelphia is 5-11 against the spread in their last 16 games overall, 2-5 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 1-7 against the spread in their last eight games as a home favorite. New York is 5-1 against the spread against a team with a losing record, 8-1 against the spread as an underdog of up to three points, and 2-5 against the spread in their last seven road games.

We have two teams who love to get after the QB and who also know how to do it and I expect it to be a low scoring game and to fall under the total.
