Oklahoma Sooners vs. Arkansas Razorbacks

The Oklahoma Sooners and the Arkansas Razorbacks battle it out in Saturday college basketball action from Norman.  The Sooners are -5.5 point favorites over the Razorbacks with an over/under point total set at 143.

The Oklahoma Sooners are still in rebuilding mode after quickly falling off of the college basketball map but Jeff Capel appears to have his team headed in the right direction. OU is off to a 6-1 start and they are unbeaten at home thus far and with a brutal schedule looming they will need every win they can get if they hope to be participating in any kind of post season action. Steven Pledger is averaging 17.2 points, Cameron Clark is averaging 10.9 points and 4.0 rebounds, Romero Osby is averaging 10.7 points and 7.6 rebounds, and Andrew Fitzgerald is averaging 10.1 points and 5.4 rebounds. As a team Oklahoma is averaging 78.1 points, 40.1 offensive rebounds, and they are shooting 45.8 percent from the floor while they allow 66.6 points and their opponents shoot 42.5 percent. The Sooners schedule heats up in a hurry and while they haven’t played a team ranked in the top 25 yet the will by the end of January.

The Arkansas Razorbacks are a rebuilding team as well and with Mike Anderson taking over as Head Coach the expectations are this team will be contending in just a matter of time. With their best player, Marshawn Powell, gone for the year the Razorbacks will need to adjust their plans and with a week off after last week’s loss at UConn they have had plenty of time to prepare for this game. B.J. Young is averaging 15.4 points and 4.1 rebounds, Mardracus Wade is averaging 10.9 points, Julysses Nobles is averaging 10.4 points, and Rickey Scott is averaging 8.3 points. As a team Arkansas is averaging 80.6 points and they are shooting 44.7 percent while defensively they are allowing 65.7 points and their opponents shoot 38.6 percent . Without Powell Arkansas may not have the talent to compete with upper level teams for a full game as we saw last week against Connecticut where they were able to cut into the lead a few times but were never able to get to the lead.

Oklahoma is 5-1 against the spread in their last six home games, 7-2 against the spread following a win, and 7-0 against the spread in their last seven home games against a team with a losing road record. Arkansas is 1-4 against the spread in their last five games against teams with a winning record, 0-4 against the spread in their last four non-conference games, and 7-18 against the spread in their last 25 games against Big 12 teams. The home team has covered in the last four meetings of these two.

Oklahoma is playing well but this looks to be a few too many points in a game that at the very best case ends up being a buzzer beater or overtime win for the Sooners.
