Florida St. Seminoles vs. UNC Greensboro Spartans

The North Carolina Greensboro Spartans look to pull the upset of the season over the Florida State Seminoles. The Spartans come in riding a four game slide following an 80-72 defeat to Elon while the Seminoles blasted Charleston Southern 76-51.  The Seminoles are -26 point favorites over the Spartans with an over/under point total set at 136.

Florida State will only go as far as their stifling defense will take them which has been far the last few years. However, that D has been a bit inconsistent during a three game slide before getting back on track against an overmatched Charleston Southern. The Buccaneers shooters were hard pressed to make shots throughout with only 29.8% from the field while the Seminoles connected at a 48.4%. FSU was simply too big and physical with a 45-30 advantage on the backboards with seven blocks. It was a helter skelter type game with both teams combining for 41 turnovers and 37 fouls but the Noles 61% shooting from inside the line carried the day. Okaro White led four double digit scorers with a game high 20 points and seven rebounds while Michael Snaer followed with 13 points. Xavier Gibson and Bernard James each scored 12 points and combined for 13 rebounds as eight players score points for the Seminoles.

A quick look is all it takes to figure out where the season is heading for North Carolina Greensboro as the Spartans can’t shoot or score and opponents are making half of their shots and tagging their defense with 77 points per game. So it’s not a great surprise UNCG has dropped four straight with the loss to Elon representing a great offensive night that went by the wayside because of a lack of stops. It wasn’t because the Spartans shot the ball well because their 37.3% was poor at best but 19 offensive rebounds gave the Spartans enough second chance looks to make the outcome reasonable. North Carolina Greensboro’s shooting struggles extended to the foul line where their 14 of 24 effort at the stripe ruined a chance at making this game much closer. Trevis Simpson led the Spartans with a monster 27 points on 8 of 16 from the floor including 4 of 7 from long range while Korey Van Dussen added 13 points and six rebounds.

Anybody that thinks North Carolina Greensboro has even a remote chance here should sell their house and buy a lottery ticket because those odds are much better. The lone chance at covering this spread lies with Florida State having mercy late.  I’ll hope for that and take the Spartans plus the 26.
