Creighton Bluejays vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers

The Creighton Blue Jays look to stay unbeaten and nationally ranked as they host the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Sunday.  The Bluejays are -8.5 point favorites over the Cornhuskers with an over/under point total set at 140.

The Creighton Blue Jays are 6-0 and Greg McDermott’s team is one of the more high powered scoring teams in the country. Creighton had been waltzing through the competition but last time out they were forced to squeak one out against San Diego State winning by two. Doug McDermott is averaging 23.7 points and 8.5 rebounds, Antoine Young is averaging 10.0 points and 4.7 assists, Jahenns Manigat is averaging 9.3 points, and Ethan Wragge is averaging 9.2 points. As a team Creighton is third in the nation in points per game with 88.8, first in assists at 22.3, and fifth in shooting percentage at 52.9 percent while defensively they are allowing 68.2 points while their opposition shoots 43.7 percent. With a fairly soft schedule on tap Creighton has a chance to do some pretty big things this year.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers are playing in their first college basketball season as members of the Big Ten and judging by how Doc Sadler’s team has fared in the early stages of the season it may be a long tough year. Nebraska has lost two of their last three but won their only road game of the season thus far. Bo Spencer is averaging 15.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.0 assists, Brian Jorge Diaz is averaging 11.8 points and 4.5 rebounds, Dylan Talley is averaging 11 points and 4.3 rebounds, and Brandon Ubel is averaging 6.3 points and 5.7 rebounds. As a team Nebraska is averaging 69.5 points and they are shooting 45.4 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 62.3 points and their opponents shoot just 37.8 percent. Nebraska opens their Big Ten schedule later this month with Wisconsin, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Illinois which is a tough stretch for anyone.

Creighton is 10-1 against the spread in their last 11 home games, 4-0 against the spread in their last four non-conference games, and 23-8 against the spread in their last 31 games overall. Nebraska is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games overall, 1-4 against the spread in their last five road games, and 1-9 against the spread following three or more consecutive home games. Creighton has covered four in a row against Nebraska.

This one looks to be a mismatch as Creighton is just way too much for this Husker team that is in for a long year.
