Bowling Green Falcons vs. Michigan St. Spartans

The Michigan State Spartans look to make it nine wins in a row as they host the Bowling Green Falcons on Saturday.  The Spartans are -19 point favorites over the Falcons with an over/under point total of 130.

Tom Izzo’s Michigan State Spartans started the season with two losses but since then MSU appears to be improving each game and are looking like they are going to be competitive once again this season. While the Spartans lost a lot of talent and experience from last year’s team they appear to have a solid mix of youth an experience. Draymond Green is averaging 16.3 points and 9.6 rebounds, Keith Appling is averaging 11.6 points, Brandon Wood is averaging 9.4 points, and Branden Dawson is averaging 7.2 points and 4.5 rebounds. As a team Michigan State is averaging 74.7 points, 17 assists, 41.9 offensive rebounds and they shoot 46.5 percent while defensively they allow 57.7 points and their opponents shoot 36.7 percent. The Spartans start their Big Ten schedule on December 28th against Indiana.

The Bowling Green Falcons haven’t won away from home this season and Louis Orr’s squad will be hard pressed to find their first road victory in this spot. BGSU has played just one team with an RPI better than 50 and they haven’t played any teams ranked in the top 25. A’uston Calhoun is averaging 12.4 points and 6.1 rebounds, Scott Thomas is averaging 11.7 points and 6.0 rebounds, Dee brown is averaging 9.6 points, and Jordan Crawford is averaging 9.8 points. As a team Bowling Green is averaging 67.6 points and they are shooting 45.5 percent while defensively they allow 63.4 points and their opponents shoot 44 percent against them. The Falcons will have a much easier go of it once they move into the MAC schedule.

Michigan State is 5-0 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 2-6-1 against the spread in their last nine home games against a team with a winning road record, and 4-0 against the spread in their last four non-conference games. Bowling Green is 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games overall, 2-5-1 against the spread in their last eight games against the Big Ten, and 9-3 against the spread in their last 12 non-conference games.

This is simply a case of too many points and while MSU is playing their best basketball in two years, this number is simply too large.
