Ryan Mathews misses practice, fantasy status for Sunday in doubt
The Chargers’ running back is hurt yet again. We break down the fantasy implications.
San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews (ankle) did not practice on Wednesday, according to Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union Times. Mathews missed last week’s game against the Denver Broncos with the ailment.
Fantasy Impact: Let’s face it at this point in Mathews’ career, it’s safe to say that the man is made of glass. He missed seven games earlier this season due to a sprained MCL, an injury that was only supposed to see him miss 4-6 weeks.
His injury couldn’t have come at a worse time for fantasy owners given that the Chargers just finished playing against Broncos, a team that doesn’t mind giving up points to running backs.
Now, the fantasy postseason is winding down and Mathews’ backups, Branden Oliver and Donald Brown will have to take over and make up for his workload. Neither back is consistent enough to really depend on moving forward.
Mathews’ hasn’t been ruled out of Sunday’s game just yet but it would be a surprise if he plays.
