Ryan Mathews injury update: feature back a true ‘questionable’ play for Chargers, fantasy owners

Should the Chargers deploy Ryan Mathews Sunday, it could be at a limited basis. We break down the fantasy implications.

San Diego Chargers‘ running back Ryan Mathews is listed as questionable for the team’s Week 15 meeting with the Denver Broncos.

Mathews has the possibility of playing Sunday despite having missed practice Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with an ankle injury. Mathews sustained the injury in Week 14 versus the New England Patriots and was limited to just two touches in the second half.

Fantasy Spin: It’s shaping up for another situation for Mathews’ owners to avoid, as the Chargers’ feature back has yet to make any indication his health has improved over the past week. Making matters worse, the Chargers are slated with a 4:05 p.m. ET start time, giving owners even fewer options to replace him if Mathews sits and they waited until inactive players were announced.

Expect a heavy dose of Branden Oliver and Donald Brown Sunday even if Mathews is to play, but none of the three are desired fantasy options for Week 15.
