RG3 will start for injured Colt McCoy

Another week, another change at quarterback in Washington.

The ever-fluid status of the quarterback position in Washington has changed course yet again. Head coach Jay Gruden has named Robert Griffin III as the starter this Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, according to the team.

Colt McCoy, who left Week 15′s loss to the New York Giants with an aggravation to his lingering neck injury, is not expected to dress. Kirk Cousins will likely serve as the backup.

“I’d like to see [Griffin] improve and hopefully there wont be any debate … this is Robert’s team now,” said Gruden, according to NBC’s Dianna Russini.

Gruden’s vote of confidence comes less than a week after he unequivocally stated his belief in McCoy as the team’s starter.

“We’ve had looks at all three quarterbacks and based on what we’ve see out at practice for the whole training camp and offseason and game situations, right now we feel that Colt is in the lead,” Gruden told reporters last Thursday.

But McCoy, whose status was in doubt up until last Friday, lasted just one series before heading into the locker room. RGIII took over and delivered a characteristically up-and-down performance in the 24-13 loss. His early touchdown pass had him slapping hands and laughing with Gruden, but his controversial fumble into the end zone just before halftime cost his team seven points.
