Philip Rivers injury update: Chargers’ QB has back injury, fantasy status still solid
Philip Rivers has a back injury but should be good to go against the San Francisco 49ers Saturday. We break down the fantasy implications.
There’s more and more talk surrounding San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers and his health at this point in the season. Rivers was dealing with a serious rib injury as recently as a couple weeks ago, according to tight end Antonio Gates, and now Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that Rivers is dealing with a back injury that is “bigger than people realize.”
Rivers missed practice Tuesday and Wednesday with the injury. It’s unclear the extent, but Rivers is still expected to play in Saturday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers. Rivers has been solid this season, completing 67.6 percent of his passes for 3,639 yards with 27 touchdowns against 13 interceptions. But he’s had a couple poor outings in recent weeks, tossing a pair of interceptions in Week 15 and throwing for just 189 yards in Week 14.
Fantasy Impact: Rivers should play in Saturday’s game against the 49ers. San Francisco has one of the top pass defenses in the league, ranking third with just 206.0 passing yards per game. That said, Rivers’ injury doesn’t really change the plan this week. If you’re a fantasy owner playing football in Week 16, then Rivers was probably a big part of that and he should be the guy once again.
