Nike releases Christmas sneakers for LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant
Here are the special sneakers Nike’s top hoopsters will wear on Christmas.
Nike unveiled its special Christmas-themed sneakers for three of the company’s biggest names — LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant — on Wednesday. The three players are all set to suit up on Dec. 25 for the league’s annual holiday slate, and now they’ll have unique digs to celebrate the occasion.
James’ shoe (right, in above photo) is a revised edition of his LeBron 12 signature shoe, which was unveiled in August, inspired by his hometown’s wintry weather. Here’s the full description from Nike:
The emerald green base combines with the shoe’s photorealistic camouflage upper on the Hyperposite shell. The camo pattern is inspired by Akron, Ohio’s winter weather and includes a birch tree pattern. Black and Hyperpunch micro dots integrate into the camo pattern for a seasonal touch. A notable subtlety of this shoe is the snowflake formed by small hexagons on the tongue loop.
Kobe’s shoe (center) could be considered a bit more festive, with his signature Kobe 9s getting the Christmas stocking treatment. “Mamba’s Greetings” sounds like something Kobe would say before absolutely wrecking you on the court, though:
The KOBE 9 gets a festive makeover highlighting its knitted aesthetic with a red and white Flyknit upper, taking inspiration from a knit stocking. Supple leather textures on the tongue and overlays give the shoe a premium feel, accented by a marbled outsole resembling candy canes. Inside, the shoe reads “Mamba’s Greetings,” a hidden detail from Bryant on the inner tongue.
Durant’s shoe (left) is inspired by his favorite holiday beverage: eggnog. I did not realize that people actually drank the stuff, but now KD has a special set of sneakers to prove it:
The shoe continues to bring Durant’s personal stories to life — this time paying tribute to his favorite holiday beverage, eggnog. A red Hyperposite heel integrates glossy flecks emulating the condensation on a glass of eggnog. “Fresh Since ’88,” Durant’s birth year, emblazons the shoe’s sock liner as a tribute to the holiday beverage Durant has enjoyed since childhood.
LeBron’s Cavs will face his former teammates from Miami on Christmas, while Durant’s Thunder take on the defending champion Spurs and Kobe’s Lakers visit the Bulls.
