NHL schedule 2014: Canadiens vs. Islanders highlights a loaded 11-game slate

There will be no shortage of noteworthy games in the NHL on Tuesday.

The NHL will take three days off this week surrounding Christmas, but before that happens there is plenty of hockey to be played. If the matchups live up to the billing, there should be a lot of good hockey with a few games between top teams on Tuesday. That includes in New York, where the Islanders will host the Canadiens.

Montreal enters the game tied at the top of the Atlantic Division with 44 points. The Islanders trail Pittsburgh in the Metropolitan Division, but have 46 points and are riding a four-game winning streak. The Islanders have one of the best offenses in the league, but will be challenged by a Montreal side that has only allowed 83 goals this season.

The Penguins are second in the NHL with 49 points. They’ll be challenged to improve that number on Tuesday when they go on the road to face the Tampa Bay Lightning. Led by captain Steven Stamkos, the Lightning offense has scored 112 goals this season, tied for most in the NHL. Pittsburgh has scored 103 goals itself, so it could be an offensive affair.

The night will wrap up in Chicago with the Blackhawks hosting the Jets. Chicago comes in playing very good hockey with an 8-1-1 record in its last 10 games.
