NHL Saturday: Blues cool off Islanders at home

The red-hot Isles couldn’t keep pace with St. Louis on Saturday afternoon. Elsewhere, the Rangers take on Detroit in Hockeytown.

It’s a busy Saturday in the NHL, filled with 12 games to keep you going through the day.

Action starts at 1 p.m. ET when the red-hot New York Islanders host the St. Louis Blues. The Islanders have won three in a row and are 8-2-0 in the past 10 games. Making things tougher on the Blues? The Isles are 10-2-0 at Nassau Coliseum this season. With the way John Tavares and former Blues goalie Jaroslav Halak have played so far this season, the Blues are going headlong into a hornet’s nest. Maybe Martin Brodeur will come in handy on the road.

Elsewhere, the Philadelphia Flyers look to get things right against the team they accidentally helped turn into a Stanley Cup winning monster in the Los Angeles Kings at 4 p.m. from Staples Center. The Flyers have lost 10 of the past 11 games and only two of those losses came in the shootout. The Flyers’ swoon has them heavily in the Connor McDavid hunt and begging for answers. Meanwhile, Jeff Carter and Mike Richards have two Stanley Cup rings and the Kings have won three of the past four games.

The real battle out West comes in San Jose, where the Sharks host the Calgary Flames at 10 p.m. The Flames have won four straight and the Sharks have won three in a row. The Sharks trail the Flames by six points in the Pacific Division and could use another win to help catch up with the rest of the group. Calgary would like to do the same, only they’re just three points back of the division-leading Ducks.

Here’s the full schedule for Saturday. You can catch all the action on GameCenter Live, except for Rangers-Red Wings in the U.S., and on Center Ice.
