NFL picks and predictions, Colts vs. Titans 2014: Indianapolis expected to roll
Andrew Luck and the Colts should dominate their AFC South rivals in one of the most lopsided match-ups of Week 17.
The Indianapolis Colts are already in the playoffs. Andrew Luck and company clinched the AFC South two weeks ago and are locked into the No. 4 seed in the AFC, leaving Indy without anything to play for in Week 17 The Tennessee Titans haven’t played meaningful football for some time, as they’re tied for the worst record in football at 2-13. On Sunday, both teams finish out the regular season with thoughts of the future.
Indianapolis will likely rest Luck and many of its other key players at some point. With nothing to gain with a victory, head coach Chuck Pagano might treat Week 17 as a bye for his group. Headed to the playoffs for the third consecutive year, the Colts hope to make an extended run after being ousted in the Divisional Round last year by the New England Patriots. To make noise, Luck will have to do the heavy lifting. The first-overall pick of 2012 is enjoying his best season yet, throwing for 4,601 yards and 38 touchdowns.
Tennessee has endured a brutal season. The Titans served notice in Week 1 with a road victory over the Kansas City Chiefs 26-10 at Arrowhead Stadium, but they’ve been terrible since. A revolving door at quarterback meant starting Charlie Whitehurst, Zach Mettenberger and Jake Locker, and the offense has stalled all season because of it. Should the Titans lose on Sunday to the Colts, they are guaranteed one of the top two picks in the draft, giving them a chance to draft either Marcus Mariota or Jameis Winston.
Over at ESPN, all 13 analysts believe the Colts will win even if some of the starters have short days. The Titans do have a believer at CBS Sports in Will Brinson, who is the only one of eight experts picking the upset.
Here at SB Nation, we have another sweep in favor of the Colts. It’s tough to pick against Luck, and really easy to pick against Tennessee.
