NCAA basketball rankings 2014: Kentucky becomes unanimous No. 1 in new AP poll

For the first time this season, college basketball has a unanimous No. 1.

For the first time in the 2014-15 season, Kentucky has received all 64 first-place votes in the Associated Press Top 25 poll. The Wildcats, who have been No. 1 since before the start of the season, had claimed all but three of the nods for the top spot the past two weeks.

Those other three No. 1 votes had been cast in the direction of Wisconsin, but the Badgers’ 80-70 home loss to Duke last week knocked them from No. 2 down to No. 5. The Blue Devils used the big victory to leapfrog Arizona and claim the No. 2 spot. Louisville rounds out this week’s top five by moving up one spot to No. 4.

The biggest mover in this week’s poll is Utah, which used its overtime victory over Wichita State to jump from No. 23 all the way up to No. 13. Washington (17), Northern Iowa (23), St. John’s (24), and Notre Dame (25) all made their top 25 debuts.

Following a week where Michigan was stunned at home by NJIT and where Michigan State lost on the road to Notre Dame, the Wolverines and Spartans find themselves unranked during the same week for the first time since the 2011-12 preseason poll.
