Marco Scandella suspended 2 games for checking Brock Nelson in the head

Keep that shoulder down next time.

Whether he wanted to or not, Minnesota Wild defenseman Marco Scandella has quickly picked up a reputation.

Scandella was suspended for two games by the NHL Department of Player Safety for an illegal check to the head of New York Islanders forward Brock Nelson during the Wild’s 5-4 win on Monday.

As you can see in the GIF, Scandella used his shoulder to deliver a shot to Nelson’s head late in the third period. For Scandella, this is the second time in less than two weeks he’s wound up on the league’s radar.

On Dec. 1, he was fined $2755.38 for a head shot delivered to St. Louis Blues forward T.J. Oshie. While the Blues wanted stiffer action taken against Scandella, his hit on Nelson made sure the NHL took action right away.

Scandella will be eligible to return to action on Dec. 16 at Chicago. Here’s the suspension video from the NHL:
