Julio Jones injury update: Star WR seems likely to play for Falcons, fantasy owners

The Falcons hope to have their No. 1 wideout in good enough shape for Sunday’s must-win game versus the Saints. We break down the fantasy implications.

Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones‘ availability on Sunday will come down to a game-time decision, but things are looking good.

Per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Jones will need to test his injured hip in pregame workouts before determining his status for his team’s showdown versus the New Orleans Saints. It would be odd if Jones suits up to play without having practiced this week or the week before, but playoff implications are heavier than usual for Sunday’s game. Elsewhere, beat reporter Vaughn McClure expects Jones to play, and also expects him to “get plenty of opportunities.”

Fantasy Spin: Two weeks ago, as fantasy owners watched Jones light-up the Packers for 259 yards and a touchdown, this matchup seemed like a slam-dunk for championship week. Now it looks like anything but, even versus the Saints’ leaky secondary.

Despite this, McClure’s words shouldn’t fall on deaf ears, so owners would be wise to allow themselves the opportunity to start Jones if he is healthy enough to go, and the Falcons playing in the 1 p.m. slot of games helps that cause. Harry Douglas deserves immediate WR2 consideration if Jones sits.
