Julio Jones injury update: Star WR expected to play for Falcons, fantasy owners

The Falcons won’t have to battle for the NFC South title without the help of their No. 1 receiver. We break down the fantasy implications.

Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones is listed as questionable for his team’s showdown versus the Carolina Panthers Sunday.

Jones sat out both Wednesday and Thursday as the Falcons continue to manage the reps of their ailing, star receiver in preparation for what is essentially a playoff game for them. Jones did manage to return to practice Friday at a limited capacity, and given the magnitude of this game, it’s difficult to envision a scenario where he sits out. Beat reporter Vaughn McClure indicated the Falcons had “no doubt” Jones would be ready for Sunday.

Fantasy Spin: Jones sat out of practice the entire week prior, but still managed to post 107 yards versus the New Orleans Saints in Week 16. So even at less than 100 percent health, his very limited week of practice can be considered a step forward. The Falcons are still committed to showering Jones with targets, and Week 17 should be no different versus the Panthers. Jones can be considered a decent WR1 option for fantasy owners vying for their league crowns.
