John Daly predicts 2015 will be ‘Tiger Woods’ year’

Tiger has a huge fan in John Daly, who, in his recent debut as a talk-show host, boasted that the only golfer alive who has a chance to ‘kick Woods’ butt’ in 2015 is Long John himself.

John Daly has nothing but admiration for Rory McIlroy, but, with all due respect to the world No. 1, the newly affianced Jack of all trades believes Tiger Woods will be The Man next year.

“I’m thinking, 2015 is Tiger Woods’ year,” Daly, who’s a recording artist, adult-beverage purveyor, pizza guy and king of the Loudmouths, predicted Tuesday night during the debut of his new “Hit it Hard” talk show on SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio.

Long John, fresh from winning his first tournament in a decade earlier this month in Turkey just days after announcing he was engaged to marry for the fifth time, offered one caveat to his forecast that Tiger would return to form after a 2014 season lost to injury: “Unless John Daly comes around and kicks his butt.”

Daly, who commiserated with Woods after each missed the cut at the PGA Championship in August, could relate to what Tiger was going through with his bad back. For the 14-time major champion, a back injury that resulted in a microdiscectomy and the worst season of his career, was just the latest in a series of health issues throughout his career.

“You cannot play this game hurt, nobody can. You can’t win playing it hurt,” said Daly, who noted he had undergone some 12 surgeries since 2007 but “had to play” through them to try to recapture his PGA Tour card.

As for the holder of four grand slam titles — including the last two to end the 2014 campaign — Daly held McIlroy in the highest regard. But …

“If he’s healthy, nobody can beat that guy [Woods],” Daly said.
”Rory McIlroy, I love him to death, all the respect for him [but] Tiger is a consistent winner. Rory’s a little, you know, off here and there, but he’s great. But Tiger Woods is still my man, I love him.”

Next up for John “Zelig” Daly — a stint on Golf Channel Academy.
