Jets vs. Dolphins 2014 picks and predictions: Miami favored to get season sweep

The Dolphins look to end 2014 on a high note while getting the sweep of their AFC East rivals.

The Miami Dolphins and New York Jets will face off in what’s been one of the NFL’s best rivalries of the past decade when the two teams end their seasons Sunday. The 8-7 Dolphins are on the verge of their first winning record since 2008. However, it won’t end in a postseason berth after Miami was eliminated last week despite a thrilling 37-35 win over the Minnesota Vikings, a game that saw the Dolphins win after blocking a punt to force a safety with 41 seconds left in the game.

As for the Jets, they’re in the midst of a disastrous 3-12 campaign in which they have gone winless in the AFC East to this point. The team’s downfall has come at quarterback and the passing game, where it ranks at the bottom of the NFL with an average of 170.4 yards per contest. Geno Smith and Michael Vick have rotated as the starting quarterbacks this year, but Smith has started the past four, and will get the nod in the final game of what could be his career as the Jets’ starter.

Miami won its Week 13 matchup with the Jets, 16-13, holding the Jets to a mere 65 yards passing. The Dolphins have topped New York in four of the last six matchups, but fell in the last meeting in Miami, 20-7, in the 2013 regular-season finale.

So, what are the experts saying about this game?

The experts are mostly siding with Pittsburgh this week. The CBS Sports‘ eight-man panel is split with four in favor of Miami and four picking New York. At ESPN, all 13 experts picked the Dolphins to win their home finale.

Here at SB Nation, all but one of our experts are leaning toward the Dolphins.
