Georgetown Hoyas wear ‘I Can’t Breathe’ shirts before game against Kansas

The Hoyas apparently made the decision as a team to wear shirts with Eric Garner’s dying words, joining a growing group of basketball players to pay tribute.

Derrick Rose, LeBron James, and Kobe Bryant had all worn shirts reading “I Can’t Breathe” during warmups of NBA games. It appears the Georgetown Hoyas are the first college team to pay Garner tribute:

This is notable since college players tend to have a little bit less agency than NBA players when it comes to making statements — or changing their apparel for that matter — but it seems like the Hoyas made the decision to don the shirts as a team.
