Frank Gore going through concussion protocol, expected to play for fantasy owners Sunday

Frank Gore is fully expected to pass his concussion test in time for his game Sunday. We break down the fantasy implications.

San Francisco 49ers running back Frank Gore is making his way through the concussion protocol and is expected to be cleared to play Saturday against the San Diego Chargers.

Gore was at practice Thursday but did not participate in contact drills. Head coach Jim Harbaugh said that he’s making progress and doesn’t seem to be worried about the running back missing time despite the short week. Gore suffered the concussion last week in a loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Rookie Carlos Hyde was also forced out of the game with ankle and back injuries and will not be active Saturday. Gore has 804 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the season.

Fantasy impact: It’s good news for the 49ers, who were staring at a perilously thin depth chart. Barring any setbacks, Gore will start and be backed up by Alfonso Smith and Phillip Tanner. The 31-year-old has been in a major slump along with the rest of the 49ers offense over the past two months. He’s an RB2/flex play who doesn’t inspire much confidence for the fantasy championship round.
