Frank Gore, Carlos Hyde unlikely to make fantasy impact in Week 16
The 49ers running back corps is depleted with injuries. We break down the fantasy implications.
The San Francisco 49ers have a big injury problem at running back Frank Gore and Carlos Hyde were both held out of practice Wednesday and neither one is expected to be ready for Saturday’s game against the San Diego Chargers.
Both players were forced out of last week’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Gore suffered a concussion and is in the league protocol, while Hyde is battling ankle and back injuries. The 49ers signed Phillip Tanner, suggesting that they don’t believe Gore and Hyde will be ready to go on a short week. Alfonso Smith will get the start if neither player is active.
Fantasy impact: With the 49ers officially out of playoff contention, it wouldn’t be a major surprise if they shut down Gore for the last two games. Age seems to have finally caught up to him, and the 31-year-old could miss the 1,000-yard mark for the first time since 2010. Hyde remains a solid dynasty hold but his rookie year has been mostly a wash. Neither player can be trusted for the fantasy championship round and Smith is an RB3 dart throw at best.
