Fantasy start/sit advice, Week 16: Johnny Manziel

The rookie quarterback couldn’t do much going in his first start. Can he step up in Week 16?

Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel had a rough go of it in his debut. In his first start last week against the Cincinnati Bengals, “Johnny Football” completed 10-of-18 passes (55.6%) for 80 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions. He also chipped in another 13 yards on the ground, but the first-round pick struggled to make plays. Manziel has a strong enough supporting cast to turn it around around but whether we will see that this year or not is very much up for debate. In order to pick it up this week, Manziel will need a game plan which features healthy amounts of scrambling and Josh Gordon.

Fantasy Impact: Manziel won’t have an intimidating match up do deal with this week in the Carolina Panthers. Their defense gives up the 12th-most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers. Regardless of the match up, it would be an extremely high risk/moderate reward move to trust “Johnny Football” during championship week. He’s a low-end QB2 with some upside.
