Fantasy football waiver wire, Week 17: Kenbrell Thompkins leads Raiders receivers for the week
Kenbrell Thompkins led the box score for Oakland receivers in Week 16. We take a look at his fantasy value moving forward.
The Oakland Raiders once again proved there’s no real leader in targets at wide receiver. In Week 16, Kenbrell Thompkins led the pack. Thompkins had a team-high seven targets, catching five passes for 90 yards. 50 yards came from one play in which Thompkins was tackled several yards short of a touchdown.
As rookie quarterback Derek Carr continues to try and establish some chemistry with players on Oakland’s roster, there’s always a chance that players deeper down the depth chart come away with big games. Thompkins has enough talent to stay on an NFL roster, but he likely won’t ever be an established No. 1 on the roster. Thompkins was a promising weapon of Tom Brady’s in 2013, but injuries kept him off the field far too often. If Thompkins keeps his job with the Raiders, it’s likely we won’t see many strong performances from him.
Fantasy impact: There hasn’t really been a truly reliable wide receiver for fantasy purposes in Oakland this season. Thompkins is no exception. If you strip away his impressive 50-yard reception, Thompkins is pretty much on par with what we’ve seen from him all season.
He won’t hold any value in any scoring format, and he’s certainly not worth a desperation add in Week 17.
