Fantasy football waiver wire, Week 17: Charles Clay tallies the yards

The Miami tight end had his highest yardage of the season Sunday. We break down the fantasy implications.

The season started quietly for Miami Dolphins tight end Charles Clay, but he’s improved of late. That includes his season high in yardage Sunday in Miami’s 37-35 win over the Minnesota Vikings.

Clay caught six passes Sunday on 10 targets, going for 114 yards. That’s almost 50 yards more than his previous season high, a 65-yard Week 9. Clay was the most-targeted Dolphin Sunday, and had the second-most receptions, behind the eight catches for 31 yards for Jarvis Landry.

Fantasy impact: Clay started the season on the TE1 borderline, but he did so poorly early in the season that his stock plummeted. He’s done just a little better since, and with the rest of the position struggling, Clay is looking like he’s around where he started.

Basically, Clay is a high-end TE2, but could be squeezed into a TE1 role in Week 17 if things are getting dicey. Considering the fact that the Dolphins host the New York Jets in Week 17, you could make an argument Clay’s status should be even higher.
