Fantasy football waiver wire, Week 16: Torrey Smith, Steve Smith Sr. don’t do much

Both receivers had health reasons for their poor performance, but it was still poor performance. We break down the fantasy implications.

For much of the season, at least one of the Baltimore Ravens‘ top wide receivers — Torrey Smith or Steve Smith Sr. — has put up big numbers, even if they’ve rarely done so at the same time. Sunday, however, neither receiver did much, though the Ravens didn’t need a lot as they beat the Jacksonville Jaguars, 20-12.

Steve Smith Sr. caught five passes in the game for 37 yards, while Torrey Smith had two catches for 16 yards. Torrey Smith has been working through a sprained knee, while Steve Smith Sr. missed some practice this week with an illness.

Fantasy impact: Torrey Smith’s injury came at a most inopportune time for his fantasy owners, as he was on a hot stretch entering Week 14. For Steve Smith Sr., though, his numbers have dipped of late even despite the injury, and if both Smiths are playing and healthy, he is the lesser of the two.

Another week of healing could make Torrey Smith more interesting for Week 16, though it will be tough to count on. Ultimately, neither is a fantasy starter, and both can be cut if need be.
