Fantasy football waiver wire, Week 16: Injuries and potential replacements

Peyton Manning’s illness was the big story for fantasy football. Here are the injuries from Week 15.

Sunday didn’t feature a lot of major injuries. Monday, however, brought big news with Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray needing surgery on his hand. He could be out for the season, so his owners will need to plan on not having him this week.

As for Sunday, Peyton Manning coming down with an illness likely had massive fantasy implications. Chances are anyone who owned him made it to the playoffs. However, he was held in check with just 233 yards and one touchdown against the San Diego Chargers. This wasn’t a disastrous game, but fantasy owners likely needed a lot more, so there’s a good chance his owners were knocked out. This is always going to be a problem with fantasy football and one-week playoffs, and owners who prefer having no playoffs and just giving their championship to the regular season winner now have another reason to feel good about that style.

The big injury was to the San Francisco 49ers backfield. Running back Frank Gore went down with a concussion and Carlos Hyde had a back injury. Hyde’s injury doesn’t seem major, so he’s probably the best pickup. San Diego Chargers receiver Keenan Allen was also hurt, so Malcolm Floyd picks up some value.

Here are the injuries from last week, with the older ones below:
