Fantasy football start/sit advice, Week 16: Packers vs. Buccaneers
Needing a win, the Packers get … maybe the worst team in the league.
Coming off a surprise loss in Week 15, the Green Bay Packers suddenly find themselves not only out of first place in the NFC North but in some risk of missing the playoffs altogether. In other words, a Week 16 matchup against the 2-12 Tampa Bay Buccaneers is just what the doctor ordered. And the Buccaneers, who really just need to lose out and get the best draft pick possible, are probably okay with it as well.
The Packers come into Week 16 basically healthy, from a fantasy perspective. Running back Eddie Lacy appears to be over his injury concerns from last week, and should be fine for Sunday. For the Buccaneers, the injury report is free of fantasy-relevant players.
The Packers will travel to Tampa Bay for the game Sunday. It is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET, and here’s a look at the fantasy names to consider:
Start ‘em: You never want to rely on a team “coming in angry,” but even if the Packers aren’t ticked about Week 15, their top offensive weapons — Aaron Rodgers, Eddie Lacy, Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb — are all must-starts. … Mason Crosby has had at least six fantasy points in every game since Week 3.
Start ‘em?: With so many defenses in premium matchups this week, the Packers’ defense aren’t as appetizing as they are in some weeks. That’s a low-end No. 2 defense.
Start ‘em: You basically need Mike Evans to find the end zone, as his yardage has fallen off a lot of late. Still, he is finding the end zone, and is still a fine WR2.
Start ‘em?: That’s two straight decent games for Vincent Jackson, and three of four. He’s a decent flex option.
Sit ‘em: The Buccaneers considered benching Josh McCown after last week. They stuck with him, but you absolutely shouldn’t. … Doug Martin started hot a week ago, then didn’t do anything after that. He just doesn’t have any upside, and Charles Sims behind him has even less. … Between injury and ineffectiveness, it’s been largely a lost rookie season for Austin Seferian-Jenkins. … Patrick Murray has done well of late, but the team might have trouble getting him kicking opportunities this week. … The Buccaneers’ defense is far from any fantasy consideration this week.
Start in every league: Aaron Rodgers, Eddie Lacy, Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, Mason Crosby, Mike Evans
Start if you’re desperate: Green Bay defense, Vincent Jackson
Bench: James Starks, Andrew Quarless, Josh McCown, Doug Martin, Charles Sims, Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Patrick Murray, Tampa Bay defense
