Fantasy football start/sit advice, Week 16: Charlie Whitehurst

The Tennessee Titans backup quarterback will start on Thursday against the Jacksonville Jaguars. We break down the fantasy implications.

Tennessee Titans quarterback Charlie Whitehurst is starting Thursday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He’s the third starting quarterback for the Titans in as many weeks. It was Zach Mettenberger, but he went down with an injury. Then Jake Locker took over, but went down with an injury in Week 15 against the New York Jets, attempting just 11 passes before being hurt.

Now, Whitehurst will make the start against Jacksonville. He hasn’t done much this season, though he’s at least got a better touchdown-to-interception ratio than both Mettenberger and Locker. All three quarterbacks have attempted 120-plus passes. Whitehurst has completed 56.6 percent of his passes for 967 yards with five touchdowns and two interceptions. Mettenberger has completed 59.8 percent of his passes for 1,412 yards with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions, while Locker sits at 58.9 percent, 993 yards, five touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Fantasy Impact: None of those numbers inspire too much confidence. If you’re playing fantasy football in Week 16, then you probably didn’t get there with Titans quarterbacks. But if for some reason Whitehurst is an option for you, there’s worse guys to start out there. He’s healthy, has an arm, and doesn’t throw a ton of picks. But it’s still a desperation move.
