Dolphins vs. Patriots 2014 picks and predictions: New England expected to dominate at home
The Patriots are an overwhelming favorite at home. Their December record in Foxboro may have something to do with it.
The New England Patriots head into the division game against the Miami Dolphins with a record of 11-2 against the ‘Fins on their home turf since 2001. The month of December has also been kind to Bill Belichick’s squad lately. New England is 26-2 in its last 28 December home games.
The oddsmakers agree that it will be a tall order for the visitors, which is why Miami comes in as a 9-point underdog on Sunday. The team at OddsShark has the over/under set at 48. Considering the Patriots boast the third-ranked scoring offense with 30.9 points per game, Miami’s seventh-ranked defensive unit figures to have a difficult test ahead.
Tom Brady struggled early on, but continues to produce at an elite level. He didn’t have a multi-touchdown performance until Week 5, and has been on a roll since. The Patriots are 8-0 this season when Brady throws for at least 250 yards.
The expert analysts echo the sentiment that Miami will have a tough time overcoming the odds. ESPN tabs the Patriots to come out on top among all 13 of its team. CBS Sports’ panel of eight sees it the same way. Finally, Yahoo Sports‘ two-man crew completes the landslide selection by going with New England.
SB Nation’s own squad is no different. The seven experts and the OddsShark computer are all giving the game to the Patriots:
