Dodgers, Phillies reportedly discussed Chase Utley during Jimmy Rollins talks

The Dodgers have been involved in all sorts of moves, and they may not be finished.

The Dodgers and Phillies discussed Chase Utley during the negotiations that eventually resulted in Jimmy Rollins being traded to Los Angeles on Wednesday, according to Yahoo! Sports’ Tim Brown.

The significance of that is the Dodgers’ decision to ship second baseman Dee Gordon to the Marlins in a blockbuster deal that netted highly touted pitching prospect Andrew Heaney and three other minor leaguers. There’s a good chance the Dodgers acquired those prospects to bolster a team that will certainly be good now and should be in the future, too, but could Andrew Friedman and his staff have other moves in store? Most likely, according to ESPN’s Jayson Stark.

Matt Kemp will be “gone” if the Dodgers receive “the right deal” for the star outfielder, Stark reports. And perhaps the team will reopen talks with the Phillies regarding Utley now that it has more assets to part with — and now that it lacks a starting second baseman. In the meantime, more players could change hands in the Dodgers’ deals with the Phillies and Marlins, per Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
