DeAngelo Williams returns to practice; fantasy value low
DeAngelo Williams returned to practice on Thursday. We break down the fantasy implications.
Carolina Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams returned to practice on Thursday, according to Jonathan Jones of the Charlotte Observer. Williams is dealing with a hand injury, and the Panthers have called him day-to-day with the injury. He’s carried the ball 63 times for 219 yards with no touchdowns this year and should be active for Carolina’s Week 15 game.
However, Jonathan Stewart has clearly run the ball much better this year. Williams hasn’t had a big game since Week 1, and with a fractured hand, it’s hard to imagine him putting together another. Stewart, meanwhile, looks like he has a lot more left in the tank, and he put up 155 yards with a touchdown against the New Orleans Saints in Week 14.
Fantasy Impact: The Panthers generally stick to a running back rotation, regardless of who is performing well. With Williams returning to practice on Thursday, he should be active on Sunday, barring any setbacks. In other words: Williams has no fantasy value, and he might be getting in the way of Stewart. It’s not a good situation for fantasy owners.
