DeAngelo Williams is ‘day by day,’ has no fantasy value
DeAngelo Williams is ‘day by day’ with a hand injury, and Jonathan Stewart is still not referred to as the starter. We break down the fantasy implications.
Carolina Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams is dealing with a fractured bone in his hand and was referred to as “day by day” by head coach Ron Rivera, according to Steve Reed of the Associated Press. Williams is third on the team in rushing with 63 carries for 219 yards and no touchdowns. Williams hasn’t had a big game since Week 1, putting up yardage totals of 21, 31 and 31 over the past three games in which he’s played.
Despite that, and his injury, Rivera has not named Jonathan Stewart the starter. Carolina has stuck to the two-back system between Williams and Stewart for years, to varying degrees of success. Williams has clearly lost a step, but even after Stewart carried the ball 20 times for 155 yards and a touchdown against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, he’s still in the discussion.
Fantasy Impact: Williams is absolutely not worth a fantasy start at this point. But he still stands the possibility of getting in the way of Stewart and his touches. That said, Stewart may have done enough on Sunday to earn himself the bulk of the carries, and he’s likely worth a fantasy start in Week 15.
