Chelsea vs. West Ham United live stream: Time, TV schedule and how to watch the EPL online

West Ham’s excellent start to the season could make their clash with Chelsea on Boxing Day closer than anticipated.

The Premier League’s annual Boxing Day fixture list gets underway with Chelsea welcoming West Ham United to Stamford Bridge for a game that could be considerably closer than we would have guessed at the start of the season.

Sure, Chelsea head into this game as league leaders, with José Mourinho’s side having looked comfortably England’s strongest side over the last few months. However, the Hammers have enjoyed a great resurgence so far, and find themselves in the unfamiliar position of challenging for a Champions League spot as we rapidly approach the midway point of the campaign. Sam Allardyce has carried out his promise to improve their standard of football, and they’ll no doubt offer a stubborn test for the Blues at Stamford Bridge.

Key player - Eden Hazard (Chelsea)

West Ham have regularly played with a narrow diamond formation so far this season, which means they’ve been heavily reliant on their full-backs to provide width high up the pitch. Chelsea will no doubt seek to pin them back with their wingers in this game, which means Eden Hazard — one of the best in the world out on the flank — will be especially important. That’s providing he makes it back from an ankle injury in time to take to the field.

Key matchup - West Ham‘s physical attack vs. Chelsea’s defence

Sam Allardyce’s team have been a joy to watch this season, but physicality, as ever, still plays a big part of their game. Their strikers, with two usually drawn from Andy Carroll, Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho, are all big, powerful units, who cause problems with their strength and aerial threat against every defence they go up against. Chelsea’s central defensive duo will have to be on their guard at all times in this match.

Chelsea injuries and suspensions

Out: None. In doubt: Eden Hazard (ankle).

West Ham United injuries and suspensions

Out: None. In doubt: James Tomkins (hamstring), Mark Noble (calf).

Hazard is Chelsea’s only doubt ahead of this game, though West Ham United could well be without both centre-back James Tomkins and midfielder Mark Noble, who face late fitness tests.
